Performance tweaking in DS 1.5 based on Netweaver

Hi everyone,

We have upgraded to 1.5, but because of general issues we faced while building the dashboards on HANA Views (mainly around impossibility to view filters/prompts in hierarchical view) we decided to go with BW on HANA mode. It supports variable merging by default and we can reuse the hierarchies from Bex queries, as well as BW based authorizations and default filter values derivation.

Even though proves to be less difficult to develop applications with BW being the Source of Data and Netweaver being the deployment option, we face now the fact that with BW on HANA the performance is slower than on HANA deployment. It takes significantly more time to display the data now that we use BW on HANA. We thought of the query palatalization, but it only works on BI Platform and only if variables are unmerged, which is not an option for us.

So the question is what could we do to improve the BW Netweaver  based performance?

The javascript trace tool in IE or Chrome doesn't show us how DS actually pulls the data from Netweaver, so we don't see if it calls the Datasources in sequence or in parallel, though I suspect it's in sequence.

Any ideas on what are the main points we could check first to improve the performance? Is there anyway how we can set up a parallel query execution in Netweaver mode?

Just for the reference, we use the Hybrid scenario in our development. We built Data Models in HANA as Calculation Views and they return the data in 0.5 seconds, so we are happy with performance here. Then we put a BW CompositeProvider on top of it and then created Bex queries that feed the Design Studio dashboards.

Thanks,
